Benefits of Orthopedic Slippers

[ad_1]

Orthopedic slippers are made of two types-those made for men and those meant for women. They are an ideal wear at home, work and in the field. The slippers offer an arch support for the feet. The slippers include moccasin slippers, diabetic slippers, memory foam slippers and orthopedic slippers. Those worn in the house are commonly referred to as house shoes. They are very comfortable to wear and keep the feet cozy throughout. They are cut low to maximize on the conformability and giving the foot a luxurious and soft feeling.

There are many benefits of putting on Orthotic slippers. The shoes are believed to offer therapeutic and orthopedic advantages. They support on the arch. Unlike the normal shoes that we wear, these have an ability to accommodate custom Orthotics because they have footbeds that are renewable and midsoles. The slippers are made of materials that are very friendly to the feet. Common materials used are polyester, leather, sheep skin, cotton and other natural grains. Women slippers are made of different designs, styles and sizes that can fit every woman’s feet. All of them have also been approved by podiatrists.

Orthopedic shoes that offer 100% freedom and comfort are those made using sheep skin. The fiber used is friendly to human skin and is able to regulate the slipper’s interior to conform to that of our normal body temperature. Orthopedic slippers for men are also as comforting and relaxing. They use the same materials as those of women and are designed to fit the men’s sizes and feet shapes. People who also suffer from cold feet can be assured to get warm by putting on this kind of shoe. It is a material that breathes easily and therefore does not allow moisture to accumulate in them. The chances of having smelly or sweaty feet are therefore reduced. Sheep skin is highly durable and long lasting as it isn’t prone to tear and snag.

Diabetic slippers are designed to cater for people or anyone who has very sensitive feet. They protect, give comfort and support the feet. The shoes are bought with two extra footbeds. These Orthotic slippers are seamless and made to give enough room for the feet, especially around the toe area. Skin irritation and formation of blister is as a result avoided. They are highly recommended by podiatrists especially to patients’ recovery from operations as well as those with edema.

The slippers give a lot of comfort to the feet especially during the healing process and also help reduce the chances of straining the muscles and joints at the ankles, knees, hips and the back. They are durable and light in weight, have a very soft and comforting padding, are able to absorb moisture and let the feet breath, and they do not restrict the flow of blood around the feet. Orthotic custom shoes have therefore promoted good health amongst its wearers as well as making them look elegant.

The Cellulite Cupping Therapy

[ad_1]

The cellulite cups are usually used for therapy referred to as the glide cupping. In such a case, the cups will be moved on the skin. The motion is done across instead of remaining in only one area. So as to make sure that the gliding action is done well and without much effort, oil or cream should be used. Coconut oil may be used, but there are other oils and creams that can aid in the whole cupping therapy.

What are some of the essential oils that can be used during cupping?

Releasing Chronic Pain From Whiplash Injury

[ad_1]

Several cases of whiplash injury could involve chronic pain. When this happens, breathing could also be shallow. You could frequently hold your own breath. As breathing is restricted, you would eventually find yourself not exhaling fully. You could not even remove stale air from your lungs, resulting to possible residual build ups of toxins.

As chronic pain ensues, your muscles could get cold and get contracted due to poor circulation. Less oxygen volume gets in and fewer toxins are naturally removed. The lungs could work more when you breathe deeply and fully. The diaphragm moves and the abdominal muscles work. These occurrences only generate more heat in the body’s core to help relieve whiplash. They are possible when you perform specific yoga exercises.

How to release chronic pain after whiplash injury? Perform specific yoga exercises and poses, as described above. Doing so could pose a calming effect right on the emotions. Fear could be reduced as well as anxiety within the nervous system. You would feel emotionally safer and you would get more at ease and physically relaxed.

The next step to release chronic pain is to change your own attitude towards pain. Observe and sense what pain feels like, how worse it gets during whiplash injury. You should feel your own emotions to be able to establish a connection with the specific parts of your body that are hurting because of the condition. Connect physical with emotional pain. This way, you would be able to recognize possible continuity between your body, your mind, and your feelings.

Understand that there are many other attitudes that could be associated with suffering from chronic pain. They include anger, depression, despair, helplessness, and loss. Whiplash injury significantly adds more stress due to the negative self-directed energy.

In her one of her books ‘You Can Heal Your Life’ by Louise L. Hay gives a wonderful offering on How To Heal Your Life. Louise gives you a Problem Situation, the Probable Cause and a New Thought Pattern to begin to heal your life. This book is a wonderful ‘bible’ to have at your side.

On Neck Problems this is what she has to say. The Probable Cause – “Refusing to see other sides of a question. Stubbornness, inflexibility.” And the New Thought Pattern – “It is with flexibility and ease that I see all sides of an issue. There are endless ways to doing things and seeing things. I am safe.” How does that fit with you? A good book to enhance your life.

Custom Vs Prefabricated TLSOs – A Comparison of Two Approaches To Back Support

[ad_1]

Custom and Prefabricated TLSOs

Definition of a “T.L.S.O.”

A T.L.S.O. is an acronym that stands for, thoracic, lumbar, sacral orthosis. Orthosis in this context is a fancy word for brace. – Essentially, this kind of brace helps to support your spine from just under your clavicle down to where your legs meet your body when you sit. There are different versions of this kind of brace, such as a low profile, mid profile and high profile design.

Prefabricated Designs

When someone gets a prefabricated TLSO they will be getting a brace that will help to support their spine. The benefits of a prefabricated TLSO is that can be delivered shortly after an order is placed for the brace. This usually means that the brace will be delivered within 24 hours, if not much sooner. Sometimes, time is such a critical part of the equation that a prefabricated orthosis might be the only option for the patient. These braces can be very helpful for people, under these circumstances, if you do not have time to get a custom made brace. This might be the biggest plus of getting one of these kinds of supports. – These braces actually can provide patients with support and that is also why they are used extensively by medical professionals today that do not have the capacity to make the custom orthoses themselves.

Custom Made TLSOs

It is hard to beat the support that a custom made TLSO can provide. Many people have contours that a prefabricated brace will try to address. Many times it may address a person’s body type well, but it is really hard to beat the support levels of a custom made brace. With some prefabricated models, shear forces and rotational issues that are extremely important, may be lacking with a prefabricated design. This is at the center of the debate for medical professionals, including orthotists. – Custom made TLSOs are made from measurements and a cast of a person’s body and in this way, an orthotist believes that they can help to control the areas that a prefabricated brace might miss on occasion. Better control of rotation and shear forces are some of the benefits of these kinds of orthoses (braces).

Where to Get a Custom or Prefabricated TLSO

When you need to get a back brace it is best to work with a local, licensed orthotist. If the individual is licensed, then individuals they have provided orthoses (braces) for at least one years time, passed rigorous tests and have studied the subject of orthotics for an extensive period of time. These individuals do not just show up, there is a lot of training that is involved and with experience comes an eye for detail that others might miss.

How Therapeutic Ultrasounds Became Used to Remove Fat

[ad_1]

Since instant fat reduction holds great appeal, liposuction has become the most common cosmetic procedure performed worldwide. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the number of liposuction procedures performed increased by 386 percent from 1992 to 2000. More than 450,000 liposuction pro- cedures were performed in 2005. Interestingly, 21% of these procedures were ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty (UAL). The American public spend an estimated $2 billion for these operations. The basic technique involves inserting a narrow tube (cannula) under the skin through tiny incisions and manipulating the cannula to break up and suction out fat cells. The procedure injures other local tissue, causing temporary bruising, swelling and blood loss. The areas most commonly treated are the outer thighs and abdomen in women and the flanks or “love handles” in men.

Liposuction can also remove unwanted fat from hips, buttocks, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks, neck and other areas. The concept behind liposuction seems almost too good to be true: However, it isn’t an easy fix. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) warns that liposuction is a serious surgical procedure that involves a potentially painful recovery and risks of rare but serious complications. A decision as to whether to undergo liposuction, according to the American Mayo Clinic, should be considered very carefully. Nevertheless, liposuction is a popular choice. However, now there may be a new ultrasonic method of removing fat from the body that involves no risk to the patient. This new method called UltraShape ® uses unique G-NIUS(TM) (Guided Non-Invasive Focused Ultrasound Selective) technology to effectively and safely break down fat cells. The use of external ultrasound means the patient does not even have to undergo any invasive surgical procedure. The UltraShape procedure has the potential to redefine aesthetic medicine by developing a non-invasive means for fat removal.

Therapeutic ultrasound (in contrast to diagnostic and imaging modalities) has been used as a therapeutic tool in medicine for more than fifty years. The first ultrasonic machine (lithotripter) used to destroy kidney stones was produced by the German Aircraft manufacturer Dornier in Munich in 1980. It was the same year that the former Beatle, John Lennon, was shot dead outside his New York apartment. In 1984, the company introduced the Dornier HM-3 (Human Model-3) and in that same year the FDA approved the use of ESWL (extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy) in the United States for the treatment of renal calculi. Since that time, the HM-3 or the “Munich Stonebuster” as the press preferred to call it has treated over five million patients worldwide. By 1985, the technique was first applied successfully in a patient with gallbladder stones. It was the same year that the energetic Dubliner, Bob Geldof, had the idea of organising Live Aid for the starving people of Africa.

In the following years, many conditions suitable for the technique of ESWL were investigated. But the story of using therapeutic ultrasound in medicine did not really start there. In fact it may have inadvertently started with another aircraft manufacturer because during World War 2, British ophthalmic surgeon Harold Ridley, noticed pieces of Plexiglas from the shattered canopies of Spitfire fighter planes did not cause any reaction when they became embedded in pilot’s eyes. He used this theory to use the material to implant the world’s first intraocular lens, at St. Thomas Hospital in London on Nov. 29, 1949. The next year he encountered widespread criticism from his peers at a conference in the United States who considered the idea of replacing the eye’s natural lens with an artificial one too radical and unacceptable for the period.

Over the next twenty years the idea of lens implants for cataracts slowly became more acceptable. In 1968, American surgeon, Charles Kelman adapted the new technology of ESWL to remove cataracts. The procedure, later known as phacoemulsification, used a tiny probe with a vibrating tip to gently break up the cataract and wash it away. The techniques of phacoemulsification and plastic lens implant technology were combined and the science of cataract surgery was revolutionised. In 1981, a protégé of Ridley called Choyce gained the first FDA approval of intraocular lenses. It was the same year that Irish Republican hunger striker, Bobby Sands died in the Maze prison. Today, after decades of development, modern phacoemulsification is considered one of the safest surgeries performed with millions of successful procedures completed every year around the world.

Today the use of therapeutic ultrasound in the form of extracor-poreal shock wave therapy has found its way into many other facets of medicine with recent advances in machines designed specifically for use on arms and legs to treat the chronic localised pain that is associated with chronic tendonitis. However, its main use may yet prove to be the most interesting as the “Tel Aviv Fat- buster”. In fact the association of ultrasound with the destruction of fat cells starts many years before. It may have started as far back as 1921, when a French surgeon called Dujarrier, decided to practice the new art of liposuction in an attempt to create a better shape on a young ballerina’s knees. Unfortunately his patient developed gangrene and required an amputation. It was the same year that the new Irish Free State was established. After this initial fiasco, things remained quiet for many years, through the advent of antibiotics, the Second World War and while the Beatles were racing up the charts with “Can’t Buy Me Love” a Cologne surgeon called Josef Schrudde decided to try out the technique again of someones ankles.

The second attempt was much more successful and thankfully the patient lived to tell the tale. In 1974, an Italian gynaecologist called Giorgio Fischer further developed the technique with the invention of an electrical, rotating scalpel encapsulated by a cannula that suctioned out dislodged cells. In 1978 the technique was taken to Paris where it was refined and popularised by the French plastic surgeon Yves-Gerard Illouz. In 1982, Illouz presented a new form of lipolysis using blunt cannulas and high-vacuum suction with reproducible good results and low morbidity and a new age of liposuction arrived. It was the same year that American film actress Princess Grace died on a mountain road in Monaco.

During the eighties other cannulae were developed by Kesselring and Meyer while the father of aesthetic medicine Pierre Fournier developed another technique using a syringe. In this period lipo- suction reached the United States but quickly fell out of favour because of increased complications and several deaths. It now appears that many of the deaths related to Plastic Surgeons com- bining liposuction with abdominoplasty “tummy tucks.” In 1985 a Californian Dermatologist, Jeffrey Klein, invented and pioneered a new tumescent method Technique, the safest method known. He was helped in this development by a Colorado dermatologist, Patrick Lillis. In 1987, an Italian Plastic Surgeon from La Sapienza University in Rome called Professor Nicolo Scuderi introduced the use of ultrasound as an emulsifying modality for fat tissue during liposuction and a new age of ‘fat busting’ began. This technique was further modified when Zocchi introduced titanium ultrasonic probes and manual remodelling of the treated areas to eliminate the fluid from the burst fat cells in 1992. It was the same year that Democratic Party candidate William J. Clinton was swept to power in the US presidential election and the world witnessed three days of rioting in Los Angeles after four white police officers were acquitted of criminal charges despite video evidence they had beaten black motorist Rodney King.

In 1998, Californian Plastic Surgeon, Barry Silberg elaborated on the technique using external ultrasound-assisted liposuction (XUAL). This method required traditional aspirative liposuction after the application of high frequency ultrasonic fields delivered through the skin into a wetted tissue. Silberg felt that this method led to less traumatic surgery with superior clinical outcome. There is little doubt as an invasive modality, like tumescent liposuction, the technique still had many of the drawbacks that accompany invasive procedures. Moreover, many doctors started to voice opinions that the magnitude of ultrasonic energy used to destroy the fat cells may also damage other tissue in contact with the cannula. Many felt one of the technical drawbacks of the ultrasonic liposuction technique was that the cannula had to be inside the body. It was at this stage a Tel Aviv plastic surgeon called Ami Glicksman considered the possibility of using external ultrasonic waves to selectively break down fat cells without the patient having to undergo a surgical procedure.

In 2001, while the rest of the world was getting to grips with the aftermath of an Al Qaeda terrorist attack on the World Trade Centre in New York, Dr. Glicksman was in Tel Aviv researching the feasibility of using external ultrasound to break down fat cells in pigs. His experiments were successful and he noted that fat lysis was selective leaving nearby tissues intact. Further macroscopic and microscopic analyses of overlying skin noted that it also remained untouched. The researchers quickly moved from the pig models and tried the external ultrasound transducer to lyse human fat from ex vivo tissue harvested from skin fiaps excised in hospital abdominoplasty procedures. These experiments also showed fat lysis only occurred in a specific region, leaving skin or fat outside of the focused beam intact. The temperature on the skin and within the focus was monitored and showed an increase of 1oC for an ultrasound treatment of 1-2 seconds. Further human in-vivo trials were commenced in Israel with participants being treated with the ultrasonic device prior to abdominoplasty in which the treated area was removed and analysed. The first study of twenty patients commenced in 2002 monitoring the safety and effectiveness of the treatment. Histological evaluation of all tissues excised during surgery clearly showed that the external ultrasound treatment only destroyed adipose cells, leaving blood vessels, connective tissue, nerves, and epidermis intact.

In 2003, a US-organised coalition invaded Iraq with the stated reason that it had not abandoned its nuclear and chemical weapons development program according to UN resolutions. In that year also, a large multi-centre clinical trial with the external ultrasound device started in five sites in the USA, UK, and Japan, in which 137 patients underwent a single treatment. The results showed that on average a 2 cm reduction in circumference was observed post-treatment. This approximates to about 0.5 litres and the rest may be removed with a further procedure performed one month later. The device has now obtained CE approval in Europe and more than 500 individuals have been commercially treated with the device in the Ireland, UK, Spain and Scandinavia, demonstrating the safety and effectiveness of the treatment. FDA trials are presently underway with all expectations that they will shortly approve the procedure.

Ventosa Massage Cupping Therapy

[ad_1]

My wife frequently has tired and sore upper back muscles. Sometimes, she even finds it difficult to move her head and upper body. Ventosa Massage Cupping Therapy has helped her a lot. This technique “sucks” out what we call “lamig” in the Philippines during the treatment. You will observe the lump inside the glass on your back gradually shrink towards the end of the session. To see is to believe!

Ventosa Massage Cupping Therapy is performed by placing glass on specific accupoints on your back. A technique is used to create a vacuum inside the glass placed on your back which lifts the skin. The practitioner then moves the cup toward the outside parts of the body sucking the air away.

At Chris and Chat Spa, we ask our patients to lie on their back for this therapy. We only use cups made of strong glass to ensure our client’s safety. To create a vacuum, a flame from a burning cotton ball is placed in an upside-down cup. When the oxygen in the cup burns out, the cup is placed directly on the skin where it is held in place by a strong suction. This draws the skin up inside the cup. Don’t worry, this will not burn your skin. The flame is just needed to create vacuum for the suction effect.

The skin inside the cup reddens due to the strong cupping which indicates that circulation has been brought to the surface. There is a deep warmth and tingling sensation after the treatment. Ventosa Cupping is generally a painless procedure. The redness should disappear in a day or two.

It’s interesting to note that this technique is known to open the “Meridians” of the body. According to traditional Chinese medicine, the flow of “qi” travels throughout the body in channels called Meridians. These are the conduits through which energy flows to every part of the body. Illness results when the qi is blocked at certain points or is not flowing properly throughout the body.

Ventosa Cupping opens these Meridians in the body. The stagnated and out of balanced qi can be restored by exerting suction and pressure resulting in invigorating energy flowing throughout the body. Cupping can also be used when qi needs to be drawn to the surface of the body from deep within to nourish muscles and the skin.

To maximize the benefits of a true therapeutic massage, we recommend undergoing Deep Tissue Massage after a Ventosa Cupping Massage.
